Belly Dancing is a dance of ultimate femininity, designed for a woman's body at any age.  Naturally graceful, fluid movements flow beneath fluttering veils and swaying coins to celebrate the beautiful and varied shapes and sizes of womanhood.  Belly Dancing expresses the joys of womanhood as it tones and exercises your body with stretching and low-impact aerobics.  Learn to enjoy your body as you let your scarves flutter and the beauty of Belly Dancing touches and transforms you emotionally and physically into a creature of grace and dignity.

What are the benefits of Belly Dancing for Mature Women?
Belly Dancing is an especially good form of exercise for mature or overweight women, or for women who are recovering from injuries or surgery because it works the muscles gently without stressing the body or overextending the joints.  It provides an age defying workout.  Because it is a weight bearing exercise (performed while standing on the feet) it helps to prevent osteoporosis.  And, when you Belly Dance, you burn approximately 300 calories per hour.  Belly Dancing is particularly good for the bones as the isolated muscle movements help increase circulation and lubrication of the joints.  Belly Dancing improves your posture as it increases the muscle strength in your abdomen, lower back, and in your legs further strengthening your postural muscles as it elongates the spine to help relieve back pain.  The actual dance movements are fluid, not jerky or abrupt as in jazz and ballet.  Belly Dancing works with the body's natural alignment, not against it like many other forms of dance and exercise.  Finally, the benefits of Belly Dancing--toning, weight loss, improved posture, flexibility and positive attitude--will help boost your self-esteem to make you feel sexy and desirable.

Do I need to have prior dance training?
NO previous dance training is necessary.  Students should be physically mobile.
This class will be geared to your age and abilities.

Are there any age limitations?
NO!  Anyone at any age can belly dance.
This class is designed for mature women and women who feel uncomfortable about their weight as well as those who feel unnerved taking classes with young college students.

Is there a special body type required for belly dancing?
NO! There are dance movements that enhance every body type and size, age, and abilities.

What do I need to wear?
Students need to wear from fitting clothing such as stretch tops and slacks or work-out clothes so they can see their bodies.  You do not need to bare your midriff.  You will need socks for your feet. We will discuss hip scarves at the first class.
