SFCC's Belly Dance leisure courses are currently offered on Thursday nights from 7:30-9:00 p.m. for a 6 week session during the Fall A & B, Winter, and Spring-Summer terms. Classes are limited to 15 students and a minimum of 5 students must be registered by the first class meeting for the class to be held.
The Lifestyles Over 50 - "Mature Woman's Belly Dance" class is offered on
Monday afternoons from 4:30-5:30 pm.

The classes are taught by Sallamah Chimera, the studio owner, who was employed by SFCC in 1997 to teach their belly dancing leisure classes. She majored in dance and has been dancing for over 28 years and teaching for over 26 years. Sallamah began studying belly dancing at the University of Florida in 1979 and continued at Valencia Community College in Orlando. She has studied with most of the nationally known belly dance teachers and has a broad perspective of the dance and its many styles. Prior to moving to Gainesville, she taught belly dance at Daytona Beach and Seminole Community Colleges for 16 years.

How to Register for SFCC's Belly Dancing Classes

Due to the popularity of the SFCC's Belly Dancing classes, it is strongly recommended that you register early through SFCC during the official registration period. (See their web site at: www.mysfcc.com for the actual registration dates if you do not receive a brochure in the Gainesville Sun.) The SFCC Continuing Education brochure "Enrich" has the Course Numbers and Registration Forms. If you miss the official registration period or you are on the waiting list, come to the first class and fill-out a registration form at the Studio. If there are any cancellations, your registration will be accepted so you can attend the class.

Dual-Enrollment:

Due to the random offering of SFCC's belly dance courses, dance students may want to try a dual-enrollment with SFCC and Ethnic Dance Expressions Studio so they can take classes on days other than SFCC's and not have to stop their dance studies when SFCC's classes end for the term. (For a Schedule of Studio Classes, see Studio Schedule & Registration.)

Ethnic Dance Expressions Studio is independently owned and operated by Sallamah Chimera and runs it's own Belly Dance and Exercise classes continuously throughout the year.
